Middle School Student Serves as Junior Board Member for Philanthropic Nonprofit Organization

Mount Madonna School student Brigg Busenhart (7th grade), is featured on the cover of the The Silicon Valley San Jose Business Journal’s 2012/2013 Giving Guide for his work as a Junior Board Member of a small nonprofit, the Tim Brauch Foundation. This foundation oversees The Tim Brauch Memorial Fund and was started by Sessions, a Santa Cruz action sports company co-owned by Brigg’s mother, Cindi Ferreira Busenhart. 

Model U.N. Club Participates in Stanford University Assembly

The Mount Madonna School (MMS) Model United Nations (MUN) Club participated in its first meet of the 2012-2013 school year November 9-11 at Stanford University. The current student group is the largest and most participatory delegation MMS has had yet, with fifteen high school students, anchored by senior club mentor Kavi Duvvoori.  

“This was my fifth and final year in MUN,” notes Duvvoori. “I co-founded the club when I was in eighth grade with my friend Zach. I have managed it since then, with some parent support. I have represented all manner of countries and characters, with specialization in dictators and genocidal regimes, and was able to bring this trend to its culmination this year.

Alice in Wonderland, Jr. – a Great Show for the Whole Family!

Tickets are on sale now for Mount Madonna’s middle school production of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, Jr. on Saturday and Sunday, December 15 and 16 at 2pm.

Reservations can be made through Wednesday, Dec. 12 and must be payed for by this time. Remaining seats will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Call the office for availability after Dec. 12.

Trench Lesson: Students Participate in WWI Battle Simulation

On a recent foggy morning, in a forest clearing near Mount Madonna School (MMS), 35 high school students dressed in military-style fatigues, or even shorts, t-shirts and jeans, huddle in two opposing, waist-deep, muddy trenches. Nearby, other students peer watchfully from behind boulders and trees, scanning the surrounding terrain. Students can be overheard discussing in low voices, attack and defensive strategies, all the while listening for the signal to commence ‘battle’. 

Students Spend ‘Election Eve’ with Congressman Sam Farr

Several Mount Madonna School 11th and 12th grade students spent Monday’s ‘election eve’ engaging with supporters of incumbent Congressman Sam Farr (D, Monterey) at an event at the Monterey Cookhouse. The students were invited to attend as Farr’s special guests, and were accompanied by MMS high school social studies teacher Ward Mailliard, Farr has represented the 20th Congressional District in Congress since 1993, and was reelected by a huge margin on Tuesday.

High School Girls Volleyball Season Concludes

Amid rousing applause and cheers from dozens of Hawks fans, Mount Madonna School’s girls junior varsity (JV) and varsity volleyball teams concluded their regular season play on October 25. The evening held additional significance: it was the last home match, and included time set aside to honor the contributions by the varsity senior players, setter Aimee Hopkins and middle Sanika Lakka.
