Director of Theatre Productions / Middle and High School Performing Arts Teacher 

We have an opening for the 2021-22 school year, starting August 2021, for a Middle and High School Performing Arts Director and Teacher. This part time position includes about 12 classes per week of performing arts instruction to all students in grades 6-12. (Hours for meetings and intensive weeks can be viewed on request on the job overview description.) Classes are generally in the afternoon, three days per week, until the two week intensives before each show with ½ day and full day rehearsals.

The Director works closely with a performing arts team, including a choreographer, music director, producer and tech crew. There are 3 major musical productions each year. September-January, the Middle and High Schools each prepare and perform a musical. The spring production is the Ramayana!, our original version going on 42 years. Rehearsals start in February and the show, at the Mexican Heritage Theatre in San Jose, will be performed in early June. The entire school is involved in the Ramayana! and the current director is available to codirect this show with the performing arts team.

This performing arts director/ teacher position requires:

  • Good organization and communication skills
  • Flexibility and working cooperatively with colleagues
  • Ability to work with adolescents, 6th-12th Grade, to challenge them, as well as to be observant of their thresholds to establish positive, confidence building relationships with them
  • Willingness to work in close relationship with a directing team, sharing decisions on design, scheduling and casting, etc.
  • Good communication with administration, faculty and parents
  • Grading and evaluating students using the school’s Power School system and Google Classroom
  • Teaching experience, but a teaching credential is not required

History Teacher – High School

We have an opening for the 2021-22 school year, starting August 2021 for a High School Humanities teacher. This position includes teaching and running our Model United Nations program. This full-time position requires:

  • Ability to relate well with both students and parents
  • Good organization and communication skills
  • Flexibility and the ability to work with colleagues
  • Ability to teach English, World History, U.S. History, and Government courses.
  • Teaching experience preferred, teaching credential not required.

Lower School Dance Teacher

We have an opening for the 2021-22 school year, starting in mid-August 2021, for a dance teacher to teach once a week to first through fifth grades (5 classes) on-campus in a safe, small-class environment. This part-time, 10 month, position requires:

  • Ability to provide an overview to a variety of dance approaches. The classes can be catered to the experience, passion and interests of the instructor as well as the abilities of the students
  • Ability to teach a choreographed dance for a performance three times a year
  • Ability to work with young students 1st through 5th Grade, to challenge them, as well as to make this class fun and engaging
  • Able to come prepared to each class
  • Most importantly, willingness to create positive relationships with the students

Applications for experienced teachers of preschool, kindergarten, elementary school, and 6th-12th Grade may be kept on file. Specific subjects we teach in 6th-12th include mathematics through Calculus, Sciences, Spanish, Dance, Music, Studio Art, History, English, and Outdoor Education. Subject-specific experience is desired but not necessary; proven ability to manage a classroom and follow a lesson plan is important.
