High School Girls Volleyball Season Concludes

Amid rousing applause and cheers from dozens of Hawks fans, Mount Madonna School’s girls junior varsity (JV) and varsity volleyball teams concluded their regular season play on October 25. The evening held additional significance: it was the last home match, and included time set aside to honor the contributions by the varsity senior players, setter Aimee Hopkins and middle Sanika Lakka.

“Mount Madonna School endeavors to have the finest girls volleyball program in the state for small schools,” notes MMS Athletic Director Sidd McDonald. “Each year through our middle and high school athletic program we field four girls volleyball teams.”

“The 2012 Mount Madonna girls varsity volleyball team has embodied the classic Mount Madonna style of playing aggressive serving and defense, comments Coach PK McDonald. “This year has been a mix of new young players and veterans who have worked hard in order to come together and create a tenacious and focused unit. Every athlete has taken her game to a higher level and revealed a higher level of potential that we will continue to move towards in the future.”

“At the JV level it’s all about growth,” adds JV Coach Nate Rockhold. “We set a goal to improve in every match, whether winning or losing, and that’s what we did! Fans of MMS girls volleyball have a lot to look forward to next season!”

Congratulations to players and coaches, including varsity assistant coach and MMS alumna, Erin Mitchell (’10), for a season well-played! Thanks, as well, to team parents Annie Thatcher (JV) and Diane Turk and Joe Viglizzo (varsity) for the great communications and coordination, and to all parents who contribute by driving, feeding, and supporting the teams this season.
