MMS Junior to Serve as Judge for Public Poetry Out Loud Event

 
Poetry Out Loud (www.poetryoutloud.org) is a high school poetry program that encourages youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This dynamic curriculum helps high school students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, learn about their literary heritage and compete for more than $100,000 in awards.
 

Ocean of Stars: MMS Fifth Grader Enters Artwork in Competition

Mount Madonna School fifth grader Simone McIntyre has entered her mixed-media work, The Ocean of Stars , in an art contest organized by the California Coastal Commission. 
 
In a statement that accompanied her work for the contest, Simone shared:
 
‘ The Ocean of Stars is made of a paper sky and a painted ocean with sparkly stars and shells washed up from the sea.

Students Recognized in Local Poetry Competition

The poetry of four Mount Madonna School students, BY Swamy, Lulu Morell-Haltom, McKenzie Caborn, and Kavi Duvvoori, has been accepted and included in the 18th Annual Santa Cruz County High School Poetry Competition and Anthology. The public is invited to listen to student readings at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 17 at 7:00pm at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education (400 Encinal St., Santa Cruz).
