Ninth Graders’ Little Big History Night

From the history of diamonds, poppy seeds, coffee and chocolate, to communications, eyeglasses and all the way back to when the universe was created in the Big Bang, and then when life first appeared on Earth, Mount Madonna School (MMS) freshmen students will share what they have investigated and learned on these topics and more at their upcoming Little Big History Night event on Tuesday, May 8.

The event, open to school families and special friends is planned for 6:30-8:00pm in the Assembly Room at the middle/high campus. The Little Big History Night is a way for students to showcase their year-end world history and geography projects on topics of their choosing.

“Big History is an interdisciplinary inquiry-based approach to the study of human knowledge,” explained teacher Tiffany Wayne, “that examines how scholars in fields as diverse as anthropology, archaeology, biology, chemistry, geography, geology, and, of course, history, all contribute to our understanding of the past and of our place in it.

“In preparation,” she continued, “my students are busy researching their chosen topic from elemental origins through the first signs of life on earth, from early humans and agricultural civilizations through to the modern scientific, industrial, and technological revolutions that define our global experiences today.”

“The Big Bang to the modern revolution are two of the eight thresholds that make up Big History,” said ninth grader Nadia Rassech. “We’ve been studying them all year, and would like to share our learning with you.”
