Soma Sharan, a senior at Mount Madonna School (MMS) has been named as a 2011 Gates Millennium Scholar (GMS) through the nation’s largest scholarship program, the Gates Millennium Scholarship Program. Sharan is one of just 1,000 students nationwide selected in 2011 for this highly-competitive award.
What could be better than a story with a prince and princess in love, gold-spangled costumes, fierce dragon, and a heroic rescue? Now in its 33rd year, Mount Madonna School’s dazzling show is the longest running production of this timeless Indian epic in the western hemisphere, and an event for the whole family!

The poetry of four Mount Madonna School students, BY Swamy, Lulu Morell-Haltom, McKenzie Caborn, and Kavi Duvvoori, has been accepted and included in the 18th Annual Santa Cruz County High School Poetry Competition and Anthology. The public is invited to listen to student readings at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 17 at 7:00pm at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education (400 Encinal St., Santa Cruz).
