Mount Madonna School (MMS) is pleased to announce McKenzie Caborn and Kabir Ahluwalia as the 2012 senior class Co-Valedictorians, and Alex Hooven as Salutatorian. These three students earned this distinction through hard work and focused effort, edging out their peers at the small Central Coast school known for strong academics, environmental education, performing arts and a competitive volleyball program. The 2012 high school graduation ceremony will commence at 9:30am on Thursday, June 14 at the school’s upper campus.

Students to Dance in Summer Performances

Six Mount Madonna School students will perform as part of Steps Dance Studio’s summer recital series. The performances are planned for June 13-15 at the Henry Mello Center for the Performing Arts in Watsonville.

Show dancers will include: Mariska Goldstein (Pre), Summer Howley (2nd), Kayla Goldstein (2nd), Denali Spector (2nd), Brielle Goldstein (4th), and Cassie Caborn (9th).

Thanks for a Successful Play It Forward! Golf Tournament

We offer a big Thank You to Jen and Bart Meltzer (Ben, 2nd), for co-chairing the 4th Annual Play it Forward! Golf Tournament on Thursday, May 17, at DeLaveaga Golf Course. This gym fundraiser was a great success, thanks to the planning and hard work by Jen and Bart.

A special shout-out to Armand Nascimento (Nicole, 12th) and Robert Moreno (CeCe, 8th) for a delicious barbeque, and to Letty Bess (Courtney, 12th; Cameron, 8th), faculty member Matt Meachen and his mom, Sue Meachen, for their work before, during and after the tournament.

Being part of a team requires dedication, regular practice, and a commitment to one’s teammates, coach, and self.

Throughout the athletic seasons at MMS, there is also a tremendous amount of team support from parents: helping with everything from carpooling and transportation, to feeding hungry players, doing admissions or book for home matches, or lending visible and vocal support as fans on the bleachers. Thank you parents – all of your help is greatly appreciated!

Students Recognized in Santa Cruz Poetry Competition

The poetry of six Mount Madonna School students, Arianna Morell-Haltom, Kabir Ahluwalia, Kavi Duvvoori, Rami Walker, Renata Massion, and Sophie Kamkar, has been selected and included in the 19th annual Santa Cruz County High School Poetry Competition and Anthology. The public is invited to listen to student readings at an awards ceremony on Thursday, May 17 at  the Santa Cruz County Office of Education (400 Encinal St., Santa Cruz). The reception begins at 6:30pm, the readings start at 7:00pm.

Massion, a ninth grader, received a Second Prize award for her sestina, Insane .
