Welcome Back to School from Head of Lower School
August 8, 2012
Dear MMS Lower School Families,
The summer weather has arrived on the mountain as we begin to feel the heat. The lake is low with the elodea in full bloom. As I walked the campus this morning, rechecking maintenance improvements, I was struck by what a truly special place the Mount Madonna School and Community is. The turkeys and deer graze the hillsides and the people walk silently to breakfast, enjoying the quiet space interrupted only by bird calls and water flowing.

Hoots and hollers – and animated screams of joy echoed throughout the gymnasium one recent afternoon, following fifth grade teacher Jessica Cambell’s announcement to her students that their environmental project was a national winner. “Give A Hoot: It’s Foul to Hurt the Burrowing Owl,” has won the elementary school Grand Prize in the 2012 Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge!
On Tuesday May 29th, we will celebrate our fundraising efforts with an all-school Ice Cream Party! We are so thrilled and thankful to have reached our $20,000 school goal, and we want to congratulate all the students and their families who contributed to this success!
Six Mount Madonna School students will perform as part of Steps Dance Studio’s summer recital series. The performances are planned for June 13-15 at the Henry Mello Center for the Performing Arts in Watsonville.
