Mount Madonna School to Host Reception for Lama Tenzin Choegyal Visit

On October 29th and 30th, Shannon and Carson Kelly will host Lama Tenzin Choegyal’s visit to Mount Madonna School and Mount Madonna Center. Last year, as part of the Values in World Thought program, the MMS senior class had the honor of visiting CED Society in India. The group was inspired by the wonderful work of the organization, the commitment of Lama Tenzin Choegyal, and by the amazing individuals rescued by Lama Choegyal.

Lama Tenzin Choegyal founded CED (Children’s Educational Development) Society. Having rescued, housed, and educated 33 children from unspeakable hardship high in the upper regions of Dolpo, Nepal, he continues to evolve the foundational program he created over 21 years ago. To date, five of the children are pursuing their master’s degrees, five are doing their undergraduate studies, and the remaining children are enrolled in a private English Medium school. In addition to the CED, Lama Tenzin has started several other initiatives, including:

G.I.F.T. (Girls’ Institute For Technology), where disabled girls are educated and empowered to learn various IT skills to support themselves.

PinkPADS is a unique facility where environmentally-friendly sanitary napkins will be produced and distributed to the underserved. In addition, the initiative includes reeducating the community to dispel the cultural menstrual superstitions.
