A Reminder for Parents of After-School Late Van Riders: It is important that MS/HS students who are participating in school-sponsored activities please sign up during the 1st period class to ride the van.
This is each student’s responsibility – as there is no way for teachers or staff to know who needs late transportation on a daily basis.
On Monday, Mount Madonna School hosted an Appreciation Day for Congressman Sam Farr (D-CA), honoring the 10-term representative for his leadership and service to California’s 17th district and recognizing him as a mentor, friend and educator for two decades of Mount Madonna School students.
Mount Madonna School eighth graders Indigo Kelly, Ruby Bracher and Phoebe Grant, observing salt water density gradient columns they created as part of a lesson on fluid density. Eighhth grade students are studying Chemistry and learning about fluid density and how the density of salt water affects the currents in the open ocean and the biodiversity in estuaries.

THANK YOU to everyone who chose to support your school through the Drive for Schools fundraiser. It is an important one in that it allows all of us to reach outside our own pocketbooks to friends, relatives, neighbors, and business associates. Along this line, thank you to Jessica Cambell for setting up the ticket sales opportunity at Deluxe Foods in Aptos.
Drive for Schools raised $13,755 for our annual and capital funds, which, unfortunately, was quite a bit short of the $20,000 goal. We will need to make up this shortfall in our other fundraising efforts this year.

Reentry to school or work after vacation often brings new vision and fresh perspective. The down time of summer revitalizes adults and children alike. Greeting the youngsters on Day One is one of my favorite moments of the school year. Students return with taller bodies, longer or shorter hair, huge smiles (sometimes with new front teeth) and jump off the bus looking for faces both familiar and new at the bus stop.

Mount Madonna School started a new tradition this year of presenting awards to students in middle and high school whose achievement in one of the areas of our school’s “Three Pillars” – Academic Excellence, Creative Self-Expression and Positive Character Development – was outstanding. These three areas are equally important to success at Mount Madonna School – and, indeed, in the world.
