Class of ’25 Senior Spotlight: Mordecai Coleman

If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be?
I would change people’s understanding of interconnectedness. If everyone understood that everything they do impacts others–and, equally as important–how it impacts them, our world would be a much nicer place.

What is one challenge you are facing in your life right now?
Finding the right way to motivate myself.

What is your dream job and why?
My dream job currently is designing and building equipment for outdoor adventuring, like backpacks, rock climbing gear, water filters, etc. It seems like it will always be in demand and I’ll get to use my own products. I will also do a better job because it’s in my own interest to make the equipment better as a user myself.

What inspires you?
A quick and easy answer is nature. But for a more in depth answer, I’d have to say it’s people who I don’t necessarily agree with or make me angry, but who also have very strong, good qualities. They make me stop and think about what I need to work on to be a well rounded and good person.

What is your favorite memory of your time at Mount Madonna School?
I don’t really keep “favorite” memories, they just come up and I think “oh that’s a good memory.” I don’t spend much of my time reminiscing, I prefer being present.

What is the mantra or catchphrase that most encapsulates your way of being?
Either “here we are,” or “that the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.”

What are your plans for after graduation?
Go have a good summer exploring and meeting new people. Then get back into that school thing I just love so much. In all seriousness though, my plans are to continue learning for the rest of my life. Out of all the things I do, that’s my favorite.
