Honors: Jack Massion (’10) named as a 2011-12 Civic Engagement Scholar
Jack Massion (’10), currently a student at Kalamazoo College, was recently named as a 2011-2012 Civic Engagement Scholar. Jack is involved with a program called Helping Youth Through Personal Empowerment (HYPE), where he works with kids from a local juvenile youth home.

Edible Learning: Baking with Young Children
“I love to bake bread,” says 5-year-old Adrian Jonker. “I love that it has the beautifullest smell that goes with it.” Jonker, a kindergarten student at Mount Madonna School (MMS), made his comments during a recent classroom baking lesson. Riley Brown, also in kindergarten adds that she loves baking because she then gets to eat for class snack what she baked.

Mount Madonna School beat visiting Scotts Valley 25-19, 25-21, 28-26 in SCCAL play. The Hawks were highlighted by Allison Ota, who had 14 kills and 25 digs. For the Falcons, Allison Twisselman had 18 digs, Maggie Witzig had 12 digs and Emily Payne knocked out seven kills.
Hands-on History: 3rd and 4th Graders Travel to Sacramento
Prior to the arrival of the first Europeans, California’s indigenous population included more than 150 tribal groups comprised of some half a million people. This is just one historical fact Mount Madonna School (MMS) 3rd and 4th graders will learn about when they visit the California State Indian Museum this week.

Congratulations to all for your engagement in the audition process, your trusting yourself and those in the room to be positive witness to your experimentation and discovery. Casting does not denote success or failure in terms of growth and expansion. At the same time, disappointment is natural and part of life. For those experiencing sadness or frustration, hang in there; it stings now, but trust the process and yourself and find your way back to openness and opportunity.
