Dear Mount Madonna School Lower School Families,
The summer weather has arrived on the mountain as we begin to feel the heat. The lake is low with the elodea in full bloom. As I walked the campus this morning, rechecking maintenance improvements, I was struck by what a truly special place the Mount Madonna School and Community is. The turkeys and deer graze the hillsides and the people walk silently to breakfast, enjoying the quiet space interrupted only by bird calls and water flowing.
Mount Madonna School alumna Erika Rosendale (’05) is having an exhibition of her paintings at Cafe Gratitude in Santa Cruz. An opening reception is planned for Friday, August 3, from 5:00-9:00pm.
Cafe Gratitude is located at 103 Lincoln Street in downtown Santa Cruz.

Planning for next year’s Model United Nations started in June. Due to the various constraints of planned Mount Madonna School trips, our participation in MUN will likely be the weekend program at Stanford, November 9th to 11th.
Ian Rusconi (’06) and wife Amita Kuttner (’08) will be performing with the Cabrillo Symphonic Chorus in a concert at 6:00pm on Sunday, July 1 at St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral in San Francisco.
Ian has been working with the Chorus for about a year and a half, and played a lead role in organizing this concert.
Mount Madonna School alum Nick Manov (’02) and teammate Jeff Nielson won the California Beach Volleyball Association’s mens’ double-A final, according to results on the organization’s website, at Main Beach on Saturday, May 26.
Mount Madonna School sophomore Sally Shields will have an exhibit 20 of her original photographs at the Second Street Cafe in Watsonville, June 16 to July 31.
“This show has many macro pictures because I love when the image on the page is larger than it is in real life,” comments Sally. “I want to capture details in images that you are not able to see with your naked eye and this show reflects that, as well as other things.
