Class of ’24 Senior Spotlight: Emma Monclus

Name, city of residence:

Emma Monclus, Morgan Hill

Grade you started at Mount Madonna School:

Seventh

What inspires you?

I am always curious to learn new things and self-improvement is a huge motivator. My parents also inspire me; they lead by example and have always been hardworking and kind. I try my best to make them proud and to set a good example for my brothers.

What is your favorite subject in school, and why?

I really enjoy calculus. Sam Lee is such a good teacher, and though it’s a fast-moving class, his joy over the subject spreads to his students, which makes them try their best. I’ve learned more than I thought I’d be able to in calculus with Sam, and my peers would agree.

If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be?

I would change the mindsets of people, because I believe influence over others is way more powerful than anything physical.

If you could go anywhere, where would you go, and why would you choose that

I would love to go to Spain to be able to see my family. I am fortunate enough to go in the summers and visit them.

Name one big challenge in your life right now:

My biggest challenge right now is time management. Since I do many extracurriculars, it is sometimes difficult to find time for doing school work.

What is your dream job and why?

I have a few dream jobs, but the one I am most passionate about is becoming an emergency room nurse. I find so much joy in the prospect of being able to care for people and also a lot of excitement in the emergency department. I enjoy learning about how the human body works and all of its complex structures and systems. If I could pursue a career that fulfilled a childhood dream of mine, it would be in criminology, such as a detective or private investigator.

What are your three favorite things?

My favorite things are going to the gym, playing volleyball and spending time with loved ones.

Favorite book:

My favorite books are the “Hunger Games” series by Suzanne Collins. It is my comfort reading and I read the series at least three times a year.

What do you want to do after high school?

Well, I’m hoping to go to college.

Something that you are proud of – and why:

I am proud of my brothers. They’ve grown to be very mature and I’m so happy to have them in my life. They make me laugh so much and I don’t know how I’d manage without David and Marc.

Something that makes you smile:

My beautiful babies (my cats)!

A favorite Mount Madonna School (MMS) memory:

My favorite MMS memory is this school year’s rafting trip. It was so fun to be on the whitewater and spend quality time with my friends.

Top three most played songs on your favorite playlist:

“Rebel Yell” by Billy idol. “Never Enough” by The Cure and “Layla” by Derek and the Dominoes
