Sophomore Wins Gold in Jiu-Jitsu Competition

Congratulations to Mount Madonna sophomore Carlo LeGan, whose Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills earned him first place gold in a 10-0 shut-out final match at the recent Rising Sun National Tournament in Daly City. This August 25 event marked Carlo’s fourth consecutive shut-out tournament (no points scored against him).

MMS Art Teacher to Participate in Open Studios

Vibrant, luminous colors, lush florals and dreamy landscapes are hallmarks of artist Sandy Shaw's paintings. Shaw, Mount Madonna's new middle school art teacher, is participating in the upcoming Santa Cruz County Open Studios, and invites all MMS families to stop by.

She will exhibit work from her "Botanical Journey" series on two weekends, October 6-7 and 20-21, 10am to 5pm. Her studio is located at 1015 Pleasant Valley Road in Aptos.

Saving for College: Realities & Misconceptions

The costs to attend a U.C. School are now in excess of $30,000 per year, while many private colleges now cost nearly twice that amount!  If you are a parent of a younger child and hope to be able to help fund their college education, you should be setting money aside ASAP.

This class will help you determine how much you should save and will explain the pros and cons of the various savings plans - including the potential impact of each one on future financial aid.  Procrastination is one of your biggest risks - the earlier you begin saving, the better.

Community Service Beach Cleanup - All School

MMS students and their families are invited to join Save Our Shores and other organizations for the Annual Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 15, 9am-Noon.

Join PD Rohan at Seacliff State Beach, or volunteer at another site.
