Middle School Community Service

Service Learning in the Middle School exposes students to concepts of community involvement, responsible citizenship and service. Students identify and explore current social and environmental problems in their communities. They study the history, evolution and impact of these problems and explore existing resources designed to address the issues. Finally, they identify their own means of being part of the solution. They actively plan, implement, and evaluate their own service projects. Examples include making public service videos for the local community TV station, serving meals to the homeless, raising money for charitable causes, tutoring children at a local trailer park, and cleaning up our local beaches. Throughout this process the students learn how to work together as a group and incorporate a lifelong value of service.
